Monday

This morning we enjoy a scenic drive to Elgin, nestled in the world-famous whisky region. There will be an opportunity to visit the lovely ruin of Elgin Cathedral , once considered Scotland's most beautiful cathedral, rivalling St Andrews  in importance. At the very top of High Street is one of Britain's oldest museums, the Elgin Museum, housed in this building since 1843. In the afternoon, we enjoy a tour, and more importantly, a tasting at one of the last independent distilleries in Scotland, Glenfiddich Distillery, one of the few single malt distilleries to remain entirely family owned and is now the World's Most Awarded Single Malt* Scotch Whisky. Our return home is by way of more spectacular scenery.

Tuesday

We’re Nessie hunting today!! This morning we visit the capital of the Highlands, Inverness, with time to browse the shops, visit the Castle or museums. This afternoon we travel alongside Loch Ness to enjoy a one hour round boat cruise, putting you right at the heart of some of the Highlands most stunning scenery, only a few miles along the loch from the medieval ruins of Urquhart castle, the perfect setting to enjoy a one-hour cruise with Jacobite.

Wednesday

We leave our hotel today and make a visit to the Cairngorms, travelling up to the base station which is over 2000ft above sea level. There will be an opportunity to board the funicular rail to the top Ptarmigan station and restaurant at 3599 feet (not included in tour price). This afternoon we continue our journey making a short stop at Dunkeld, a picturesque town on the banks of the River Tay, full of restored houses, and a cathedral dating from 1260. We arrive at our hotel close to Stirling, late afternoon where we will spend the next 3 nights.

Thursday

Today we enjoy visits to both the Falkirk Wheel and Kelpies Experience. The Falkirk Wheel was opened by the Queen in May 2002. Nothing like it has ever been built before anywhere in the world. Boat lifts are nothing new, though the last built in the UK was in 1875, but a rotating boat lift? Experience an exciting trip on the Falkirk Wheel, an astonishingly ambitious feat of engineering and regeneration that received royal approval and stands as an iconic Scottish tribute to the Millennium. At the Visitor Centre, you will find out all the facts, stories and engineering triumphs behind the wheel and its connecting waterways at their state of the art, interactive exhibition wall. The Kelpies are a true feat of engineering, towering a colossal 30 meters above Scotland’s Forth & Clyde canal near Falkirk and form a dramatic gateway to the canal entrance on the East Coast of Scotland. Experience a tour inside and hear all about their origin and inspiration, and marvel at the complexity and the engineering which created these fantastic pieces of art. They are the largest public artworks in Scotland.
